Alternative Breaks
Alternative Winter Experience (AWE) & Alternative Spring Break (ASB) give students the opportunity to travel around the country and participate in weeklong service learning opportunities as a means of addressing social issues. Some of the social issues addressed are: hunger and homelessness, HIV or AIDS, domestic abuse, preserving the environment, and many more!
In the past, groups have traveled to New York and Washington, D.C. to prepare and deliver hot meals for people with HIV or AIDS, to Atlanta, Georgia, and Colorado to work with issues of hunger and homelessness, and to Tahlequah, Oklahoma to volunteer at the Cherokee Nation, helping children in a Head Start Program.
